Much of this vision has been achieved; the company has won many prizes and awards for its pioneering environmental projects and principles. It has also invested in the community through infrastructural improvements and setting up health and educational facilities.

As part of this vision, it became obvious in the mid 1990s that there was a need for quality education in the area that would cater to both the local Dominican population and also the rapidly expanding national and foreign community working in the tourist industry and related businesses. Puntacana International School opened in 2000 with just several grades and has since expanded to what it is today.

4worldlovers: The architectural firm of ERNESTO BUCH ARCHITECT, Inc. was founded in 1987 and has offices in Coral Glables Florida; New Haven Connecticut, and Punta Cana Dominican Republic. The firm has completed numerous projects not only in Connecticut, but New York, Florida, Alabama and The Dominican Republic as well.

The firm specializes in Classical/Traditional architecture and urbanism. As such, it is committed to an architecture that is responsive to its physical setting. The firm very strongly believes that a building must be an integral part of its surroundings and respectful of its historical context and building traditions. As an example of this, the firm has been involved in the planning of traditional new towns and neighborhoods in addition to the design of buildings integral to those plans.


The firm follows the lead and inspiration of its founder and principal, Ernesto Buch. Ernesto's love of Classical/Traditional architecture and urbanism dates back to his childhood in Cuba and Miami. Born in Cuba, sub sequentially immigrating to Miami, Ernesto was exposed at a young age to various physical environments and architecture that eventually lead him to his interest in Traditional architecture and urbanism. His inherent curiosity and passion has lead him to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Case Western Reserve University, a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Miami and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University.

Throughout his career Ernesto has been extremely fortunate to work on many exciting projects with various talent in the fields of architecture and urbanism. Highlights include working with Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk on the Master Plan and Code for the Town of Seaside Florida. During this period, Ernesto designed numerous houses and civic buildings for Seaside, most notably the Tupelo Street Beach Pavilion (pictured), which has become an icon for "The Little Beach Town That Made a Big Difference". Another high point in Ernesto's career and education was to work with the highly respected and admired Classicist Allan Greenberg. With Allan Greenberg, Ernesto not only had the privilege to work on many stimulating projects, but also the opportunity to broaden his knowledge of the language of Classicism. With this knowledge Ernesto was inspired to design the firm's first project, The Richardson Library. Ernesto was awarded The Arthur Ross Award in Architecture given by Classical America, for his design of this private library in the Classical Tradition. In recent years Ernesto and the firm have been involved in designing and completing numerous projects within the Dominican Republic, Miami and the Bahamas, primarily focusing on private residences in the Classical Tradition.
